This study deals with the effect of sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) (0.1, 1, and 10 mg/liter) on the growth dynamics and physiological state of the microalga Dunaliella salina Teod. (Chlorophyta). The effect of SDS increased with increasing its concentration. At 10 mg/liter, the toxicant significantly inhibited microalgae growth and led to a decrease in chlorophyll α and carotinoid contents.

Key words: sodium dodecyl sulfate, surface-active substances, Dunaliella salina.
